After spending thousands of dollars, umpteen hours, and quite a respectable amount of effort on a degree in one of the sciences, you would expect a person would focus on the job they worked so hard for. Well, for these seven celebrities they put down the test tubes and walked straight into the spotlight.

Brian May was born July 19, 1947 in London. Although everyone knows him as the rockin’ guitarist in the generation defining band Queen, May has earned a PhD in Astrophysics along with Astronomy. After 30 years of stepping back, Brian May returned to his work in 2007, when he promptly published his thesis entitled “Motions of Interplanetary Dust”.

You may not believe it from his uncouth performances that leave us in stitches, but Ken Jeong is a licensed physician. He received his PhD from Duke University. Jeong gave up the medical life, as he was in favor of his career in acting. With his latest movie Crazy Rich Asians, in which he had a memorable role, making a whopping 237.9 million dollars in the box office, I think it’s safe to assume he has no regret in leaving the medical field.

One significant actress from the 90’s and early 2000’s is one Lisa Kudrow. Kudrow earned her bachelor's degree in biology, from Vassar College. That may come to a surprise for the fans of her most iconic character Phoebe Buffay, who radiates childlike ignorance. Lisa spent a decade on the hit TV show Friends. The show was is still so popular, she still brings in 70 million a year! Now that’s what I call success.

A famous film director, George Miller studied medicine at the University of New South Wales. Miller worked on a short film which he then entered into and won a film contest, during his last year of medical school. He’s directed films such as Happy Feet and the Mad Max series. His networth of roughly $18 million truly shows that Mr.Miller found his calling.

Dexter Holland has quite the impressive resume, consisting of having a bachelor degree in biology, a masters degree in molecular biology, and being the lead singer of the band Offspring. Holland received his PhD in 2017. Dexter Holland’s official new job title is Molecular Biologist. With his bank account resting at around 65 million dollars, Holland has lived a

life full of success.

These celebrities have definitely proven themselves as well rounded intellectuals. Working hard on their crafts and having esteemed science degrees in their back pockets, these stars are really lighting it up. An important lesson to take from these celebrities is that education is necessary to follow your dreams.
