Honduras Caravan

At this very moment, thousands of Hondurans are marching toward the United States seeking asylum in the only place they see hope. While it is mostly young men, there are also women and children making the journey to a place they pray will offer them a better life than the one they have in Honduras.

These people are facing extreme poverty and awful living conditions in their home country, places with no faith in law enforcement and no hope for a better future. With malnutrition and poor living conditions, these Hondurans are seeking asylum from the poor government that is letting this happen.

While conditions in Honduras are far from favorable, life in the caravan is no afternoon hike. They still have over 1,000 miles to go, walking all day in the hot sun and into the night. Many find sleep curled up on sidewalks, park benches, or leaning against the wall of local businesses.

The immigrants were met with support as they entered Guatemala, with volunteers passing out sandwiches and water. With this, they picked up more and more people to continue the trek forward, even as the Trump Administration continues to spew threats and punishments their way. The Catholic Church and the UN are supporting this movement, making it a huge point of interest for the midterm elections.

With the obstacles and the hardships, it is obvious that danger and unemployment are far larger hindrances to a good life than that of the caravan. With as many people providing relief to these people, it is up to the United States government to decide whether to let these people in or kick them off into the streets of Mexico.
