Should Other Countries Be Able to Eat Dog Meat?

I think eating dogs is wrong for many reasons. In our country, dogs are man's best friend. People have dogs as pets, service dogs, police dogs, and guard dogs. Dogs are used for many things, but they shouldn't be used as food. First off, dogs haven't done anything to deserve to be sold and then killed to be eaten. Dogs are loving and caring companions; how can people eat them? It's wrong, I love animals, especially dogs.
In some countries, such as China, South Korea, Vietnam, and Indonesia, it is acceptable to eat dog meat. Based on my research, most people there don't admit to eating dog meat. Most restaurants don't serve dog meat, however, in some of these countries there are many street vendors that do. Each year in June, the city of Yulin in southern China hosts a dog meat festival where live dogs and cats are sold specifically for eating. An estimated 10,000 dogs are slaughtered for their meat in the 10 days of the festival. In South Korea, dog meat dishes are so common that the dishes have their own name. In February, the biggest dog meat market in Seongnam was closed down. There had been a wider crackdown due to the country’s future hosting of the Winter Olympics.
When I was five, I had a dog whose name was Shadow and we were best friends. I had her for seven years and then we had to put her down. This was horrible for me and I can't imagine her being eaten. For me, I had gained a relationship with dogs. I know that this sounds weird but many people force dogs to breed for food. Ricky Gervais says, “They steal people’s pets to torture & eat. What would you do to someone who you caught torturing your dog?”, he also says that, “‘They believe torturing the dog makes the meat tastier. They beat them, burn them, skin & boil them alive!” I stand by what he says because it's wrong that they do this. So many people in the world think this is wrong. It’s part of their culture but it can be changed and they shouldn't be allowed to do this.
I know I already said this but here's more information why I think it's wrong, up to 10 million dogs, many of which are stolen from their yards with pet collars still around their necks, are reportedly slaughtered for their meat in China every year. It's such a large amount of dogs being taken away from homes and being eaten, it’s horrible and it's disgusting. How can human beings be so cruel to animals like that? I know what most meat producers do to cows, chickens, and pigs but that's a main source of food that everyone eats. I'm not saying that's not wrong, but I feel that they are meant to be food whereas dogs are our pets. This has really changed how I feel about animals. These countries also eat cats but the fact is that they have a festival for eating dogs. It’s weird, cruel, and especially wrong, how is it natural for them to do that? If you go onto youtube and search Yulin Dog Festival it will probably affect you as much as it has affected me.
