The Destruction of Free Thought?

Like usual, the reality show, a.k.a. real life, is in full swing.
Just this month, Kim Jong-Un and Moon Jae-In declared they will move to formally end the decades long Korean War, Bill Cosby has been guilty of sexual assault, but the most peculiar, to me, has been Kanye West’s sudden admiration for President Donald Trump. In a tweet that started it all, West says “I love the Way Candace Owens thinks.”
Owens, the communications director for a conservative student organization entitled “Turning Point USA,” has been a fierce critic of topics ranging from political correctness to groupthink.
West’s later tweeted, “The thought police want to suppress freedom of thought;”“We have freedom of speech but not freedom of thought;” and even “Free thinkers don’t fear retaliation for your thoughts.”
Flooded with angry responses, West continued, even later posting a Trump-signed “Make America Great Again” hat. Rolling Stone magazine called the tweets, “A Real Threat.”
Shania Twain, a Canadian singer, recently in an interview claimed, “I would have voted for [Trump] because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite?” These comments, not surprisingly, were met with backlash against the singer.
An article from the Seattle Times was titled, “Shania Twain, you disappoint me.” And it even goes on to say, “The lamentable truth is, I don’t want to have anything to do with anyone who supports Donald Trump.” Pretty disgusting, eh?
The silencing and demonizing of conservative voices is nothing new, especially in Hollywood. There’s even a “secret” organization named the “Friends of Abe” for celebrities who have had to hide their conservative opinions for fear of their career being destroyed.
Isn’t this disturbing? Kanye and Shania challenge an ideology and they’re chastised? Although this was interesting, albeit odd, this is much larger than these two celebrities. The silencing of dissenting opinions is all too common in America.
In New York, the Manhattan Supreme Court Judge ruled that a bar is allowed to refuse service to someone for simply wearing a “MAGA” hat. Now don’t get me wrong, I believe it is a business’s right to refuse service to anyone. But weren't people's lives ruined for this exact situation not long ago?
The level of hypocrisy revolving around our political world is astounding. The thought police are in college campuses, the workplace, everywhere. Weren’t we taught that America was the capital for free speech and debate?
Kim Kardashian, Kanye’s wife, tweeted about West’s “controversial” tweets. “He’s a free thinker, is that not allowed in America? Because some of his ideas differ from yours..? That’s not fair.”
Who would have thought Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are the two voices of reason in America?
