Miamisburg Clubs: Meetings of February

Miamisburg High School has a lot of clubs; however, most of the students do not know anything about them. Every week at least one unique club gets its members together for a meeting that will promote fun, knowledge, entertainment, and even a guest speaker! This month, The Valhalla Voice joined two of many MHS clubs: the International Club and the Drama Club. Here is what we found interesting about them:

International Club

Organized and coordinated by Ms. Bethany Kramer, along with her dedicated ambassadors, the International Club celebrates the culture worldwide. At least once a month, the club makes an indoor and an outdoor meeting. Indoor meetings are held in her classroom after school and they are all different, covering cultural events worldwide. Outdoor meetings are called dinner-out; it is a moment when the members get together at a restaurant to try a variety of cuisines.

The indoor activity of this month was a Valentine’s plus Mardi Gras theme. As the pictures below show, the members created Valentine’s cards and posters to give for their friends, dates, teachers (in a not creepy way) or whoever they wanted to give it to. Meanwhile, those who are not into Valentine’s Day created masks to celebrate the Mardi gras, since both cultural events usually happen in the same season.

The dinner-out of February took place at Pho Mi (check them out here!). Pho Mi is a true Vietnamese restaurant in Dayton. The members had the opportunity to get together, have a fantastic time and try a special cuisine.

Drama Club

The Drama Club meetings take place in Mrs. Hill’s room after school. At this club, the students involved can learn more about the universe of acting. Since our musical is coming up, the last meeting was all about it; an honorable guest speaker was also part of this meeting.

The musical of MHS this year is High School Musical Junior! In order to prepare the students for the auditions, Mrs. Hill and her guest speaker, Alan Jones — one of the members of the original High School Musical production — answered all the questions/concerns about the auditions. They also talked a little bit about the roles of the crew members, an important part to make the show happen (you can volunteer clicking here)!

After the q&a section, students were invited to perform a quick monologue in front the classroom. Getting such practice would help them perform even better during the auditions, since Mr. Jones gave them hints about how they can improve their natural-born talent for the stage.
