Valentine's Nay

So it’s nearing the end of January and you know what February brings? Valentine’s Day. Or as I said in the title, Valentine’s Nay.
Remember when we were all young and pure and Valentine’s Day meant candy and giving out cute little papers with nice friendly messages to everyone in our class? Yeah, those were the good days.
I don’t mean to sound like a lonely cynic, even though I am, but I just think that we as a culture put way too much pressure on this one day of the year to express love and affection. Why can’t we do that any day?
Valentine’s Day is cute in theory, but in reality, it’s a day that the majority of people think they have to do something extra special to express the emotions that they feel all the time. Why can’t we be spontaneously romantic every day of the year. “Because St. Valentine said so.” Well, newsflash for you, there’s no actual Roman Martyr with the name Valentine so we don’t even know if he was real. But that’s not my point.
What I mean to say is that when you are celebrating Valentine’s Day this year, take a moment to remember that you should be this way all year around. Don’t just celebrate the day because of our culture and then turn around the next day and not be romantic or sweet anymore. Find days throughout the year to express love to the people you care about the most, and don’t put too much pressure on Valentine’s Day to be perfect.
