Although our lives are crazy and packed with so many things to do, sometimes it’s nice to just sit down, grab your favorite drink, and read a good book. Reading can not only entertain you, but can also reduce your stress levels, help you sleep better, and strengthen your cognition. Here are some of books that are worth a read (in my unbiased opinion):

  1. Love and First Sight - Written by John Sundquist, this book provides an interesting insight into what it means to be blind, and what sight really is. Will Porter, a sixteen-year old boy, attends a new school and has been blind his whole life. There he meets a girl named Cecily, who he later develops a crush for. When he is offered an experimental surgery to help him see, the risks hold him back. What if sight is not always the best option?

  2. Front Lines - The draft. It’s a controversial move by our government that every man dreads. However, what if the draft was instituted for women as well during World War II? Michael Grant helps us look through the eyes of Rio, Frangie, and Rainy to see how women could have really contributed to the war efforts in the 1940s.

  3. Get It Together, Delilah - Immerse yourself in Australian culture and find yourself relating to the characters in the story with this book by Erin Gough. Follow Delilah, an eighteen-year old girl, in her coming-of-age story as she battles hardships, faces relationship problems, and becomes self-aware.

  4. The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus series) - Read all about Greek mythology in this sequel series to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Jason, Piper, and Leo are just normal kids until they discover that they are something more: demigods. Follow their growth throughout the novel as they look for Percy Jackson, who has mysteriously disappeared, and prepare to defeat Gaea- the earth goddess- and her giants.

  5. Any Sarah Dessen novel (The Truth About Forever, Lock and Key) - Dessen does a phenomenal job interweaving family, friendship, and love into one novel. Not only will you discover so much about how all of these relate, but you will learn lessons on how to fix broken relationships, what true love means, and how beautiful real friendships are. Pick up any of her novels and you will not be disappointed.
